Amazon decided to turn its couriers into cyborgs. No, seriously – the company announced smart glasses with AI for delivery workers. The idea, according to the e-commerce giant, is to free up drivers’ hands. And spare them from constantly switching gaze between phone, package and surroundings.

Sounds futuristic, right? The glasses scan packages, show step-by-step routes, record delivery confirmation. All without using a smartphone. The technology is based on computer vision and AI sensors that create a display with information about obstacles and delivery tasks directly in the driver’s field of vision.

The glasses come with a controller in the delivery worker’s vest with controls, replaceable battery and emergency help button.

Amazon expects the gadget to save time on every delivery. Providing detailed instructions and hazard data directly in front of the courier’s eyes. When the driver parks at the delivery point, the glasses automatically activate, help find the right package in the car and lead to the address. This is especially convenient in apartment complexes and business centers.

Theoretically, courier efficiency should greatly increase. Turning them into elements of an even more optimized Amazon logistics machine. The technology itself is impressive of course.
