Built Robotics created robots for solar industry automation

Built Robotics company’s mission sounds ambitious: “create robots that build the world”. And by automating repetitive tasks in the solar industry, valued at $300 billion, this company is accelerating our transition to solar energy. Built Robotics entered the industrial solar installation market with its product – the robotic pile driver RPD35. This is a robotic excavator capable of automating several stages in the process of installing piles for solar panels. The robot can autonomously conduct geological surveys of pile locations, distribute piles, drive them in and create as-built documentation.

To create this marvel of engineering, the company modified a Caterpillar 335 excavator, adding key components: the “Exosystem” system, special skids for carrying piles and a unique hammer of their own development. RPD35 can transport up to 224 piles with maximum lifting capacity of 15 tons. The second model – RPS25 – installs piles with stunning accuracy: vertical deviation doesn’t exceed 1 degree, and deviation from design height is only 15 millimeters. And robots work in coordinated groups up to 24 hours a day, which allows significantly accelerating construction.
