Channel 4 conducted experiment with AI presenter
British TV channel Channel 4 conducted a real psychological experiment for viewers. It showed an entire program about AI’s impact on the job market that was hosted by a generated presenter. And only announced this at the very end. Goal? To show how easy it is to be deceived by content that’s hard to verify.
In the program titled “Will AI Take My Job?” a photographer, general practitioner, composer and aspiring lawyer competed with neural networks in performing their work. The program was hosted by Aisha Gaban – a pleasant presenter who asked questions and commented on what was happening.
And at the end of the program, she informed viewers that her appearance, voice, movements and even the locations in the background were completely created by neural networks. And called herself the first AI presenter on British television. Can you imagine the reaction of people who watched her the whole episode and didn’t notice the trick?
The program also presented results of a survey among executives of British companies. 41% of respondents reported having fired employees due to AI implementation. And about half plan new cuts in the next 5 years. So it became a program about whether AI will take your job, hosted by AI itself. The irony is off the charts.
