China disabled AI photo recognition during entrance exams

China’s technological world temporarily restructured for educational honesty. Very unexpected. Artificial intelligence service developers disabled photo recognition functions during university entrance exams to prevent mass cheating among applicants.

In June, entrance exams began in China. Under the updated system, applicants take tests in 3 main subjects — Chinese, mathematics, foreign language with the option to choose Russian, as well as 3 elective subjects. To create optimal conditions, some cities even “froze” construction work and banned motorists from honking.

Social media users massively report malfunctions in leading platforms such as DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao, Kimi and Qwen. When attempting to upload images with exam questions, systems issue a warning, I quote: “according to established requirements, the service will be suspended during state exams”.

Interestingly, at the same time, Chinese authorities actively use artificial intelligence to control exam conduct. In some provinces, applicants are monitored by a special recognition system that catches whispers, notices use of prohibited items and records suspicious behavior. This is when students look around or submit answers unusually quickly.
