China launched 100 autonomous electric trucks at coal mine

Chinese energy giant Huaneng Group launched the world’s largest fleet of autonomous electric trucks for mining. 100 autonomous vehicles equipped with advanced autonomous driving systems from Huawei Technologies have already started work.

Huaneng Ruichi trucks represent the largest single deployment of autonomous electric mining dump trucks in the history of the global industry. The technological filling of the vehicles includes 5th generation communications with extended capabilities, artificial intelligence, cloud computing platforms, intelligent battery replacement system and high-precision mapping.

These autonomous giants are created for autonomous loading and unloading of rock in extreme weather conditions of the Yimin coal mine in Hulun Buir. Compared to traditional trucks driven by humans, Huaneng Ruichi increase overall transportation efficiency by 20%.

According to forecasts by the China National Coal Association, by the end of this year more than 5,000 automated mining dump trucks will be operating throughout the country. And by 2026 their number will reach an impressive figure of 10,000 machines.
