AI fraudster posed as Keanu Reeves for 2.5 years and stole $160,000

Dianne Ringstaff became a victim of sophisticated fraud when she was playing a mobile game and received a message followed by a video call. Artificial intelligence technologies were so advanced that the woman was absolutely certain — the real Keanu Reeves was calling her.

This dramatic story continued for more than 2.5 years. The fraudster methodically built trusting relationships using fake calls and messages. When trust was won, Keanu Reeves began telling about his problems. Allegedly a lawsuit was filed against him, the FBI was hunting him, and all his assets were frozen.

Dianne, still experiencing personal losses, sincerely wanted to help the “star”. She took a loan against her house, sold her car and eventually transferred $160,000. Later it turned out that her bank account was used to move money from other victims as well.

Today Dianne warns: “Don’t be naive. Check information and don’t reveal personal data if you’re not sure who you’re dealing with”. The truth is still unclear to me how people explain to themselves how it happens that specifically they get called by a Hollywood star?
