Apple moves AI production from China to Texas

Apple has announced unprecedented investments in the American economy, including the construction of a new factory in Texas and the creation of thousands of research and development jobs. The company plans to radically expand its presence in the United States in the coming years.

According to the technology giant’s statement, by 2026, a 250,000 square foot manufacturing complex will appear in Houston. The facility, which will be built in cooperation with Taiwanese company Foxconn, will focus on producing servers for data centers that power the Apple Intelligence platform – a set of AI functions for automating routine tasks, including composing emails.

Apple also announced the creation of about 20,000 new jobs in research and development across the United States. The company’s total investment in the American economy over the next four years will amount to $500 billion. This amount includes purchases from American suppliers and funding for content production for the Apple TV+ service.

The company also announced an increase in its Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 to $10 billion. Part of these funds will be directed to “multi-billion dollar commitments” for the production of advanced semiconductors at TSMC’s factory in Arizona, where Apple has already begun mass production of its in-house designed chips.

This announcement followed a meeting between Apple CEO Tim Cook and President Donald Trump. The meeting took place against the backdrop of the introduction of 10 percent tariffs on a number of Apple products assembled in China, although the company had previously managed to obtain exemptions from tariff policies during Trump’s first term.

Despite the fact that most of Apple’s consumer products are still assembled outside the US, many key components are produced by American companies, including chips from Broadcom, SkyWorks Solutions, and Qorovo. The new investments could significantly strengthen Apple’s position in the US and reduce the company’s dependence on manufacturing facilities in China.
