ByteDance launched Doubao-Seed-Code for $1.30 per month

ByteDance launched the cheapest AI-based programming assistant. Doubao-Seed-Code costs 1 dollar 30 cents per month. The Chinese company that created TikTok made it the most accessible in the local market.

However, as South China Morning Post clarifies, the stated price is valid only during the first month of subscription to the Doubao-Seed-Code model. From the 2nd month it increases to 5 dollars per month.

The Doubao chatbot enjoys great popularity and its audience doubled over the previous 6 months. And the new Doubao-Seed-Code model managed to set a record in the SWE-bench Verified test. Which puts it on par with leading Western developments like Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet.

And now the irony of the situation. Anthropic in September blocked access to its resources for Chinese companies and their divisions. Therefore the appearance of a Chinese analog should please local developers.

According to ByteDance representatives, this software development automation tool is on average 62% cheaper than popular industry solutions. And per request Doubao-Seed-Code can process up to 256 thousand words.

So, while the West blocks access to technologies, China creates its own. Cheaper and more efficient. And Chinese developers are bringing new AI-based applications to market at high speed, reminding the whole world of the moment of DeepSeek’s debut.
