OpenAI acquired the company of legendary former Apple chief designer Jony Ive for $6.5 billion. And you know what for? Now the former Apple chief designer will lead all creative and design work at OpenAI! Sam Altman commented on the deal on Twitter with these words. “Very excited to partner with Jony, in my opinion, the greatest designer in the world. Looking forward to the opportunity to create a new generation of computers powered by artificial intelligence.”

This collaboration brings one of Apple’s leading designers, creator of the iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Apple Watch, to the forefront of generative artificial intelligence. Since the launch of ChatGPT in ’22, OpenAI has significantly expanded its consumer direction. Earlier this month, the company appointed former Meta executive and Instacart CEO Fidji Simo as head of consumer applications.

If OpenAI releases a consumer device, Ive could help the startup directly compete with Apple. And something tells me it definitely will. And will develop consumer devices based on artificial intelligence. According to The Wall Street Journal, Ive’s role will be quite extensive — he will participate in creating future versions of ChatGPT and other company products.
