Elon Musk warned that OpenAI will eat Microsoft alive

I told yesterday that enthusiasts dug up traces of a new feature called “Group chats” in the web version of ChatGPT. And then I saw an interview with Sam Altman. And there Altman stated in the interview, quote: “I think all corporate applications can be replaced with a common AI-based platform. There’s a lot of good in Slack, but sometimes it creates a bunch of fake work. I think you can create something new instead. Something like an AI-based office suite that will replace docs, slides, email, Slack and so on”.

And this is not just musings about the future – this is a direct threat to Microsoft, which was once OpenAI’s main partner.

As a reminder, Microsoft invested billions in OpenAI, hoping to integrate AI technologies into its products. And now OpenAI plans to create a platform that will replace Microsoft Office, Teams and the entire corporate ecosystem at once.

According to Altman, it will be something based on agents that do most of the work and escalate it to a human only when really necessary. That is, OpenAI wants to kill all corporate software in one blow.

Elon Musk reacted to the news laconically, quote: “And I told you they’re going to directly compete with Microsoft”.

And this is not the first time he’s warning about this. Some time ago Musk called on Microsoft to stop working with OpenAI. Warning the company that otherwise OpenAI will “eat it alive”.
