In China took place an unusual championship CMG World Robot Competition. This is the first in the world competition where human-like robots participate in fights. This is a qualitatively new level compared to the popular in the late 90s “Robot Wars”, where machines with chainsaws, flamethrowers and rams fought with each other.

The modern format preserved the competitive spirit, but acquired a more civilized form. Robots are equipped with boxing gloves and protective helmets, fights take place on a professional ring. Control of machines is still carried out by human operators – full autonomy is not yet available.

Organizers approached the event with all seriousness. Professional referees are present at the championship, a one-and-a-half-hour analytical studio works, where experts analyze tactics and technical features of participants. Essentially, a full-fledged sports product with corresponding infrastructure has been created.

In the future one can quite expect the appearance of competitions with robots controlled by artificial intelligence based on large language models. This will mean a transition from demonstration of operators’ skills to competition of algorithms themselves and machine learning systems.
