Meta AI blocks thousands of Facebook groups for “terrorism”

Earlier I told you that Meta’s artificial intelligence was massively blocking Instagram accounts. Now it’s blocking Facebook groups too. An unprecedented wave of blocks is happening. Thousands of Facebook groups fell under unfounded sanctions from the moderation system. This technical collapse affected communities both in the USA and abroad, covering the most diverse thematic categories.

A particularly alarming aspect of the problem is the absurdity of the accusations! Group administrators receive notifications about violations related to “terrorist content” or “naked bodies”. Although their communities are devoted to absolutely harmless topics: money-saving tips, parent support, dog and cat lover groups. Or gaming communities, Pokémon fans and even mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.

The scale of the disaster is impressive — not only small groups were hit, but also large communities with tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands and even millions of users!

Meta’s official representative Andy Stone confirmed the existence of the problem, I quote: “We are aware of a technical error that affected some Facebook groups. We are fixing the situation now”. And they still don’t want to admit that their own artificial intelligence was the culprit. Which is responsible for automatic content moderation.
