Microsoft diversifies partnerships: Claude Sonnet 4 in Office

According to The Information, Anthropic’s AI will now work alongside OpenAI technologies in programs like Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. This is essentially the end of the era of exclusive Microsoft collaboration with ChatGPT’s creator in office applications.

It’s important to note that Microsoft’s leadership considers Anthropic’s latest model Claude Sonnet 4 more effective in some functions. For example, in creating visually appealing PowerPoint presentations.

Simultaneously, OpenAI is taking steps toward independence from Microsoft. The company recently launched a job search platform that could compete with LinkedIn. And also plans to begin mass production of its own AI chips in partnership with Broadcom next year.

This will allow OpenAI to potentially conduct model training and inference on its own hardware. Reducing dependence on Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure.
