Police dispersed 2,000 people from AI startup Cluely’s party
Police dispersed what founder and director of AI startup Cluely Roy Li called “the most legendary party that never happened”.
It all started with an ambitious idea to throw an afterparty following the Y Combinator event called “AI School for Startups”. The event attracted huge crowds thanks to star speakers like Sam Altman, Satya Nadella and Elon Musk.
Cluely – an AI startup known for its provocative marketing – and Li published a satirical video on Twitter advertising his party. The clip showed him positioned by the famous Y Combinator sign, although Cluely isn’t even a startup from Y Combinator’s portfolio.
According to Li, he sent invitations only to friends and their acquaintances. However, information spread lightning-fast, and the party became the most desired event of the evening.
When it came time to start the event, an incredible number of people gathered outside. Lines stretched for several blocks. By Li’s estimates, about 2,000 people came! And then dissatisfied residents called police and they dispersed everyone. They partied anyway.
