Wave of Instagram blocks: AI mistakenly bans thousands of accounts

Instagram users are facing a real wave of mysterious blocks that has been continuing for several weeks. The scale of the problem is staggering. Thousands of accounts have been blocked without visible violations of platform rules.

Many users point to a possible cause. And these are automated AI systems that may mistakenly classify harmless content as violating rules.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, maintains official silence so far. The lack of transparency only intensifies community frustration. Users massively report that their appeals remain unanswered, and official support channels don’t respond to inquiries.

“I submitted several appeals, uploaded documents and tried to contact Meta through all official channels, but I’m completely ignored. It feels like screaming into the void,” writes Reddit user with nickname Dyrovicious.

The community is mobilizing — on Reddit, discussions about blocks occupy all top posts, on Twitter users flood Instagram comments with demands to solve the problem, and a petition on Change.org has already collected more than 4,000 signatures. The only official alternative — paid Meta Verified subscription offering priority support. But even that doesn’t work.
