Knowledge has lost value – Sam Altman
Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, agreed with Tim Cook that accumulated knowledge has lost its former workplace value.
Speaking on ReThinking podcast, Altman explained that OpenAI no longer focuses on hiring employees with fact memorization abilities. Instead, the company seeks people who can ask deep, meaningful questions.
Despite AI development and artificial superintelligence discussions, humans maintain unique advantages. Altman emphasizes the importance of determining which questions to ask and creatively connecting ideas.
Tim Cook, continuing Steve Jobs’ legacy at Apple, views AI as a tool for simplifying processes and administrative tasks, but human factors remain critical.
However, even Apple acknowledges the impossibility of completely eliminating AI “hallucinations” – erroneous or meaningless responses. Recent examples include Google Gemini recommending glue for pizza cheese and ChatGPT’s malfunction leading to illogical answers.
“I’ll never claim the system will be perfect,” Cook stated about Apple Intelligence, which will enhance iPhone, iPad, and Mac capabilities in email responses, emoji, and text processing.
Apparently, we’re entering an era where the most valuable skill is asking AI the right questions – it knows all answers but doesn’t always understand their meaning.
