Lambda AI CEO predicted code replacement with neural network prompts

Stefan Balaban, CEO of Lambda AI, expressed a radical thesis about the future of programming. Which goes far beyond familiar discussions about replacing programmers with artificial intelligence. In his opinion, artificial intelligence will replace not just developers, but code itself as a fundamental element of software creation.

At a recent presentation Balaban proposed a fundamentally new paradigm: traditional code writing will lose its relevance. Giving way to a system where software will be formed through prompts – text instructions for neural networks. Such an approach assumes that programs will “behave like code”, but at the same time will not contain familiar programming constructs.

Particularly illustrative was the example with user interfaces – Balaban claims that every pixel will not be drawn according to given algorithms, but generated by a neural network. This means complete transformation of the program creation process, where descriptive instructions will replace declarative and imperative code.

It’s worth noting that Lambda AI, Balaban’s company, specializes in cloud services for graphics processor rental and artificial intelligence model deployment, which makes his forecast quite significant for the industry. But I think we still have about 10 years before this event.
