Meta launches LlamaCon – generative AI conference
Meta has announced its first developer conference fully dedicated to generative artificial intelligence. The event, named LlamaCon after the Llama AI model family, will take place on April 29, 2025.
The company plans to present at the conference the latest developments in open-source AI development that will help developers create innovative applications and products. The detailed program of the event will be announced soon, while Meta’s annual developer conference Meta Connect will retain its traditional place in the calendar and will be held in September.
Meta took a course toward an “open” approach to artificial intelligence technology development several years ago, aiming to create an ecosystem of applications and platforms. Although the exact number of applications and services developed based on Llama is not disclosed, among the known users of the technology are Goldman Sachs, Nomura Holdings, AT&T, DoorDash, and Accenture.
According to the company’s statements, the Llama model has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times, and the number of official partners providing hosting for Llama has reached at least 25, including tech giants such as Nvidia, Databricks, Groq, Dell, and Snowflake. Some partners have developed additional tools allowing models to work with proprietary data and reducing latency.
However, according to sources, Meta was caught off guard by the rapid development of Chinese company DeepSeek, which managed to release “open” AI models capable of competing with Meta’s developments.
The hosting of LlamaCon can be seen as Meta’s strategic move to strengthen its position in open AI and expand the developer community amid growing global competition. The conference will also provide a platform to showcase the advantages of the Llama ecosystem and attract new partners to the development of open AI technologies.
