New Midjourney video generator turns pictures into 16-second clips

Midjourney service launched the long-awaited video generator Midjourney Video V1. This is a fundamentally new tool with stunning possibilities for creative self-expression.

The technology works on the principle of converting images to video. Users can select a generated picture or upload their own, press the Animate button. And the system automatically improves the prompt to create a dynamic scene. A manual mode is also provided, allowing detailed description of which exact elements need to be animated.

Developers offered 2 key settings. “Low motion” for slow, atmospheric scenes and “high motion” for dynamic sequences. Maximum video duration is 16 seconds. With the possibility of sequential extension by 4 seconds.

The aesthetics of output material fully corresponds to Midjourney’s signature style — with beautiful color reproduction and composition. The system excellently handles movement dynamics and even human figure anatomy. However, detail still leaves much to be desired — visible artifacts and reduced resolution of 480 pixels, which is inferior to even some open-source solutions.

The Midjourney team sees this release as part of a comprehensive strategy to create a full-fledged 3D simulation system with interactive object and space control.
