OpenAI promises to create full-fledged AI scientist by 2028
OpenAI promised to create a full-fledged AI-based scientist by 2028. Company CEO Sam Altman also stated that deep learning systems will be able to perform functions of research scientists at intern level by September next year. And the level of an autonomous full-fledged AI researcher could be achieved by 2028.
OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki explained that “by AI researcher is meant a system capable of autonomously carrying out large research projects”. He added that “in the company’s opinion, superintelligent systems surpassing humans in intelligence across a broad spectrum of critically important actions can be created by deep learning methods in less than a decade”.
To achieve these goals, OpenAI will bet on 2 key directions. These are constant algorithmic improvements and radical increase in computing resources at the inference stage. Currently such models are capable of working within about 5 hours and showing results comparable to people participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
