Startup Enveda uses AI to create drugs from ancient herbs
A biotech startup from Colorado combined ancient wisdom with artificial intelligence to create new drugs. Company Enveda developed a platform that describes molecular formulas of medicinal herbs and predicts their therapeutic potential.
According to WHO, almost half of drugs, including aspirin, are created based on molecules found in nature. 99.9% of plants’ chemical composition is still unexplored. That’s where the treasure is buried.
The neural network analyzed 33 million ethnobotanical sources collected over 5,000 years. Selected 38,000 plants for treating symptoms of 12,000 ailments. AI cataloged their chemical composition and identified active molecules with the greatest chance of becoming drugs.
Researchers have already begun testing an anti-inflammatory agent based on a plant that has long treated symptoms of asthma and eczema in humans. In the queue – drugs for weight loss, immune system support and treatment of neurological diseases.
And this could open an entire library of new drugs that nature created for millions of years, and we simply didn’t know how to read properly.
Enveda CEO Viswa Kolluru states: We’re combining ancient wisdom of ancestors with the power of natural chemistry, AI and discoveries in pharmaceuticals. We stand on the shoulders of possibly the greatest giant – Mother Nature.
