Sundar Pichai announced the beginning of the second phase of the artificial intelligence revolution

Sundar Pichai, head of Alphabet, shared his vision of the future in an interview with The Verge publication. According to him, we have already entered the 2nd phase of the artificial intelligence revolution. If the 1st phase was dedicated to creating technological capabilities – transformers and language models, now comes the time for real products that millions of people use every day.

Sundar Pichai is convinced that in terms of impact scale, artificial intelligence will surpass even the internet, which changed our civilization. Particularly interesting was his view on the future of the internet. According to him, the web is simply a series of databases with a user interface built specifically for humans. But for artificial intelligence and autonomous agents, the visual web we’re accustomed to becomes unnecessary. They can work with data directly, bypassing graphical interfaces.

The future of the internet, in Pichai’s opinion, will be inseparably connected with artificial intelligence and its agents. He draws a curious analogy with a restaurant. Some clients prefer to dine on-site, others order takeout food. Each format requires its own process organization, but both directions are critically important for successful business. And the next revolutionary wave of changes, according to Google’s head forecasts, will come from the field of robotics. When artificial intelligence creates a truly magical moment with general-purpose robots, a new fundamental platform shift will occur.
