10 thousand students entrusted AI with organizing dates without messaging
An unusual dating app called Ditto AI is gaining popularity in California universities. The app’s creators drew inspiration from the famous episode “Hang the DJ” from the series “Black Mirror.” Where artificial intelligence was engaged in selecting perfect couples and managing people’s dates.
The main feature of Ditto AI is the complete absence of likes and swipes typical for such services. Instead, artificial intelligence independently selects suitable partners for users and organizes meetings.
The Ditto AI process works like this. A user fills out a detailed profile, where they indicate their interests, preferences, and so-called “red flags.” Factors that are categorically unacceptable in a potential partner. After receiving this information, artificial intelligence conducts 1000 virtual simulations to determine the most compatible pairs.
When the ideal candidate is found, the system doesn’t just notify about a match, but immediately organizes a real date. It sets the time, place, and even suggests conversation topics that may be interesting to both participants. This approach is designed to eliminate endless messaging and accelerate the transition to personal communication.
As the service co-founder Allen Wang explains: “People are stuck in dating apps instead of dating in real life. Why can’t artificial intelligence replace all these swipes, small talk, and other nonsense?” In his opinion, technology should not drag out the dating process, but make it more efficient.
Currently, about 10 thousand people use the app, with registration available only to holders of university email addresses. Well, this is exactly how Facebook started with universities too.
