Amazon and Anthropic are building a supercomputer 5 times more powerful than the current one
Anthropic and Amazon are building something colossal! The companies have joined forces to create the Project Rainier supercomputer. The most powerful in Amazon Web Services history. It will be housed in multiple data centers across the United States.
The supercomputer will give Anthropic 5 times more computing power compared to their current largest cluster. At the core of Project Rainier are servers with Trainium 2 chips. Which Amazon developed specifically for training and running artificial intelligence models.
One such chip performs trillions of calculations per second. A notable feature of the project is eco-friendly cooling. Several data centers will be completely cooled by outside air, without using water.
In traditional data centers, servers work independently and exchange data through external network switches. This creates delays that are unacceptable in projects of this scale. Project Rainier solves this problem using new UltraServers and UltraClusters architecture.
